Rye Little League wins ages 9-10 state title

MANCHESTER — The Rye Little League 9- and 10-year-old All-Star team won the state championship with an 11-1 victory over Bedford in Game 3 of the state finals on Wednesday night at Precourt Park.
The game was stopped after four innings due to the 10-run mercy rule. It is the first 9- and 10-year-old state title for Rye (12-1).
Rye, the District II champion, won two straight games in the series after dropping a 14-0 decision in Game 1 last Saturday. Rye rebounded with an 8-3 win over District I champion Bedford (7-2) in Game 2 on Sunday.
Max Malila pitched five innings for Rye, allowing one run and two hits while striking out five. He also had two hits and two RBIs at the plate. Spencer Leger went 2-for-3 with a three-run double in the third inning.
