Marshwood baseball team edged in regional semis

WESTBROOK, Maine -- The sixth-seeded Marshwood High School baseball team took a one-run lead into the fifth inning, but No. 2 Westbrook pushed across the tying and go-ahead runs, and took a 2-1 win Monday in the semifinals of the Western Maine Class A tournament.
The Hawks got their run in the top of the fourth, when Ben Claus led off with a triple and Luke Fernandes drove him in with an infield single.
But Westbrook scored runs on sacrifice flies in the fifth and sixth innings, and closed out the Hawks in the seventh.
Jack Verrill took the loss for Marshwood, pitching 5 2/3 innings and allowing three hits, two runs and one earned run.
Westbrook advances to play No. 1 Cheverus in the regional final on Wednesday.
