Delmon Young taken off on stretcher after awkward wall crash

Delmon Young taken off on stretcher after awkward wall crash
Give Delmon Young's(notes) injury on Saturday night an 'A' for awkward.
Actually, the Minnesota Twins left fielder is lucky we're not awarding it a 'B' for broken or 'G' for gruesome. That's because the baseball world collectively flinched and assumed the worst as Young crashed into the video board at Milwaukee's Miller Park and was carted off on a stretcher during an 11-1 loss. As Young lay crumpled on the warning track, Yuniesky Betancourt(notes) raced around the bases for an inside the park home run.

But despite appearances, Young's injury was announced as "just" a right ankle sprain. That qualified as good news, considering the initial fear was that his leg might have fractured as he slid into the base of the wall. (Unfortunately, the sprain was of Young's own doing, seeing as he horribly misplayed the Betancourt's fly ball, coming in at first before charging back toward the wall as the ball easily flew over his head.)
The Twins announced after the game that Young — who had been hitting .256 with two homers and 20 RBI — had been placed on the 15-day disabled list. Outfielder Rene Tosoni(notes) will be recalled for Sunday's series-ender against the Brewers.
